The concept of a growth mindset was developed by psychologist Carol Dweck and popularized in her book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success.

A fixed mindset is actually the opposite of a growth mindset. According to Dweck, “In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. Alternatively, In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work — brains and talent are just the starting point.”

Growth mindset I’d say is the demonstration of a growth mentality. A person with a growth mindset believes everything is possible, you can achieve whatever you set your mind to do.

Permit me to say this; the only thing that can limit you is your mind, just convince yourself and “the sky will be your starting point”.

One of my recent challenges was to teach some kids networking courses and I don’t have any clue about how networking works. I tried to look at the bright side, I collected the job because I saw it as an opportunity to learn something new. So, I went to Google and Youtube to get materials on networking and it has been fun. If I’d rejected the offer simply because I did not know anything about networking, that’d be me exhibiting a fixed mindset trait.

I used to believe creating a responsive design won’t be feasible for me because I don’t really like front-end development. When I actually took the bold step of faith to learn it, it’s been fun and tasking all the way. I read up on some medium posts and checked out stackoverflow when I had blockers.

I was working on a small project, I did some front-end and back-end too but I was stuck because I don’t know how to link it together. I was on it for some minutes, trying to figure it out. So, after some hours of researching I reached out to a friend, he just asked to checkout fetchAPI and when I did it was actually what I needed. I was glad I asked him.

In conclusion, the first place to overcome any challenge is your mind, then try to take necessary steps by reaching out to mentors and don’t forget that Google is your friend.
